Attorney Shelley Ann Quilty-Lake Named “Rising Star” In Employment Litigation

sql-headshot-2-small-sizeAttorney Shelley Ann Quilty-Lake of Meenan & Associates, LLC was recently named a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers magazine for her work representing Plaintiffs in Employment Litigation after being nominated by her peers as a “Rising Star” in the field of Employment Litigation. After her nomination, she was subjected to Super Lawyers’ independent research and peer evaluation process before making the final selection of attorneys in the New York metro area to be named a “Rising Star.” According to Super Lawyers, only 2.5% of attorneys are selected to “Rising Stars,” making Ms. Quilty-Lake’s selection all the more impressive.

Meenan & Associates is proud that Ms. Quilty-Lake’s determined advocacy for the firm’s clients has been recognized by her peers, and congratulates Ms. Quilty-Lake on being honored. For a link to the relevant page of Super Lawyers’ magazine regarding her “Rising Star” selection, click here.

Most recently, Ms. Quilty-Lake has advocated successfully for employees who have hearing loss and are experiencing discrimination in the workplace.

Globally, hearing loss has been identified as the fifth leading cause of years lived with disability. Hearing loss is of increasing public concern. According to a 2011 study led by Johns Hopkins researchers, about 20 percent of Americans, 48 million people, report some degree of hearing loss and 60 percent of the people with hearing loss are either in the work force or in educational settings. The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) estimates that approximately 15 percent of Americans, 26 million people, between the ages of 20 and 69 have high frequency hearing loss due to exposure to noise at work or during leisure activities.

Despite the prevalence of hearing loss, unfortunately, it is a commonly misunderstood condition leading to the disqualification of persons with hearing loss from employment and other opportunities. In many instances, employees and potential employees are afraid to acknowledge their hearing loss for fear of being subjected to adverse actions by their employers, such as termination.

Ms. Quilty-Lake is an effective advocate for employees unfairly treated due to hearing loss.

If you have experienced what you believe is discriminatory treatment in the workplace due to your hearing loss, or you have been denied an opportunity for employment because of your hearing loss, please contact Ms. Quilty-Lake at (212) 226-7334.
